King George V Memorial Fountain
Windsor
United Kingdom
Status: Working
Description: This is the recently restored King George V Memorial Fountain located in Windsor. The Memorial to King George V at the junction of Thames Street and Datchet Road was provided by public subscription. The work is from a design by Sir Edwin Lutyens, R.A., and was unveiled by King George VI on 23rd April I937. The refurbishment works have allowed a more enhanced fountain and flow with now treated water. The fountain is now up to a standard that it can be more easily maintained and renovated in the future. Though unfortunately the 60ft evergreen oaks trees which were originally only 6ft in 1937 do shed a continuous daily barrage of leaves causing excessive mess and problems if not kept on top of. The pumped water from the main pool feeds the two fountains and bowls. The water then flows through gravity from the square intermidiate pools through the lions mouths and thus re-circulated.
