A BROMSGROVE councillor is calling for the installation of drinking fountains at the district's recreation grounds.

Councillor Peter McDonald is due to put forward the motion at a council meeting on Wednesday evening.

Prior to the meeting he said: “There is a serious need for drinking fountains in the recreation grounds.

“At the moment, because there are no drinking fountains, many young children have to buy drinks and many of those are unhealthy.

“I feel Bromsgrove council should recognise that drinking fountains are a necessary feature of any recreation ground and that they would go some way in combating the consumption of unhealthy drinks.

Mr McDonald added: “I am hopeful that the rest of the councillors will agree with my motion calling for drinking fountains to be installed in all the council’s recreation grounds. For all I am asking for is nothing more than water, which there is a basic need for.”
